Donderdagavond presenteerde Nila Patty en Esmee de Lorijn samen ‘De Nijmeegse Afval Challenge’ op het festival Plastic Fantastic? in het Valkenhof museum. Nila vertelde hier haar verhaal. Ze groeide op in Indonesië en zag daar de grote hoeveelheden plastic die achteloos in de natuur werden achtergelaten en de omgeving voorgoed veranderde. Dit zorgde voor grote ergernis. Toen Nila besloot in Nederland te gaan studeren leek dit voor haar een droom. Zo’n schoon land. Hier aangekomen zag ze dat Nederland dan wel schoon was maar er evenveel plastic gebruikt werd. Dit werd dan alleen verbrand in plaats van achtergelaten op het strand. Ze besloot om zonder plastic te gaan leven. Ze zag dat dit mogelijk was en ging langzaamaan verder. Momenteel leeft Nila al een jaar zonder afval. Voor deze prestatie ontving Nila donderdagavond na haar presentatie het duurzame estafettestokje van het Repaircafé. De maand februari heeft het thema Afval en Nila heeft het stokje dan ook helemaal verdiend!!
